- Make-do attitude: Babli’s creativity in making a ball from rags, paper, and wool reflects the Indian value of using available resources wisely (जुगाड़ – jugaad).
- Friendship and cooperation: The story highlights how friends play together and help each other.
- Oral storytelling: Encourage children to ask their grandparents about games they played as children. This connects to India’s tradition of oral storytelling and intergenerational learning.
Note to the Teacher (शिक्षक के लिए नोट)
- Give children enough time to observe the picture. Encourage all children to speak and answer the questions, even if they speak in their home language. Help them find English words.
- Interact with children to elicit responses in English.
- Speak about how things around us can be used to have fun – such as using an old bicycle tyre as a wheel and running after it with a stick. Encourage children to use waste material to create something useful.
- Activity A (Role Play) is pair work. Help children choose their partners. Provide the required materials to enact the story in parts. Encourage children to use English as much as possible.
- For Activity B (Games from grandparents), ask children to learn about the games their parents used to play and tell the same in the next class in English. They may use some terms related to the game in their mother tongue.
- Practice picture reading regularly to build observation, memory, and descriptive ability without heavy reliance on reading text.
