- Animals in Indian culture: Many animals mentioned in the poem (frog, fish, horse, bird, monkey, snake, lion) are part of Indian folklore, Panchatantra stories, and mythology.
- Panchatantra connection: The Panchatantra has many animal stories that teach moral values. Discuss how animals in stories often have human-like qualities.
- Indian traditional games: Children in India often imitate animals while playing – hopping like frogs, flying like birds. This connects to traditional play practices.
- Yoga and animal poses: Many yoga asanas are named after animals (Bhujangasana – cobra pose, Matsyasana – fish pose, Garudasana – eagle pose). Connect physical movement to yoga.
- Respect for all living beings: Indian culture teaches respect for all living beings. Discuss how we should be kind to animals.
- Multilingualism: Discuss animal names in different Indian languages (Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali, etc.).
Note to the Teacher (शिक्षक के लिए नोट)
- Download and share the sounds on the mobile such as, croaking of a frog, cackling of a hen, quack of a duck, bleat of a sheep, etc. Let children guess the names of the animals.
- Think of imaginary situations and begin a conversation. You may ensure that all the students get their turn to answer.
- All answers are acceptable, real or imaginary. Provide regular practice of the sentence structures. Help children answer in full sentences.
- Sing the “Song of I” and encourage children to sing it too. Help them understand the notion that ‘I’ is oneself.
- Ensure that children say the blends correctly. Provide regular exercise of blends.
- Encourage children to speak in English even if they use a mix of Hindi/English. Accept all responses and gradually encourage full sentences.
